The Canadian boxes are different from the US versions. Instead of a shoe-box style with a seperate top and bottom, the Canadian box is a single piece designed to be opened from the top flap - like the US JWA boxes.

Canadian boxes came in many different versions. Most of these had the same pictures or drawings as their US counterparts. Here is a brief description of the different box types in chronological order:

• Dept. Store Mailer - A plain brown or off-white box with the Marx brand on the front. This figure's name was hand written on the box ends. The side of the box was printed with "Louis Marx & Co. of Canada [ltd?] Scarborough, Ontario". See the Jimmy West section for pictures.
• French Sticker - US box version copy with the phrase "Instructions en français à l'intérieur" on a sticker on the box front. I assume these were only issued as a temporary basis until the Scarborough company could produce their own boxes. This was also how the Canadians sold the JWA series US figures in Canada - They did not produce their own JWA box version.
• French Inscription - US box version copy with the phrase "Instructions en français à l'intérieur" inscribed on the box front. Most of these are in english on both the back and the front and the sides too. But the flaps on the bottom and top are in french.
• in new mod colours - US box version graphics with a greenish-yellow shape over a part of the US box art on the french face. This greenish-yellow 'square' has a purlple splash in it with the words "in new mod colours" printed in two colors inside. The opposite face of the box is the standard US english version without the yellow square / purple splash. (except for the Geronimo FAF box - this has the same front and back face). This version was used for the adult figures and was issued before the Yellow Square boxes.
• Mod Colours Stamp- Basic Bilingual design using the US box version graphics with a black stamp looking rectangle saying "Mod Colours" printed over the figure waist on both faces. The opposite side of the box is the standard US english version without the stamp. This version was used for the kid figures like Josie and Jamie.
• Bilingual Box - US box version graphics with English on front and French on the back. One end flap is in french and the other is in english. The accessories on the sides are named in both English and French on the adult figure boxes. The child figure boxes had the same sides, one in english and one in french. This is referred to as a Bi-Lingual box. This style was usually combined with one of the colored square or splash enhancements below...
• Yellow Square - Basic Bilingual design using the US box version graphics with a yellow shape over a part of the US box art on the french face. This yellow 'square' gave the Marx company in Scarborough a place to write the description in french without changing the box design. The opposite face of the box is the standard US english version without the yellow square. This version was used for the adult figures.
• Yellow FAF Splash - US FAF box version graphics with a yellow shape over the part of the US box art that said Fort Apache Fighters. This yellow splash had black letters saying "Movable Cavalryman" a [french subtitle] and "Cavalier Artiicule" inside. The opposite face of the box is the standard US english version without the yellow splash. This version was used for the Capt. Maddox and General Custer figures only.
• Blue Square - Basic Bilingual design using the US box version graphics with a blue shape over a part of the US box art on the french face. This blue 'square' gave the Marx company in Scarborough a place to write the description in french without changing the box design. The opposite face of the box is the standard US english version without the blue square. This version was used for the Jamie and Janice figures.
• Blue Splash- Basic Bilingual design using the US box version graphics with a blue shape over a part of the US box art on the french face. This blue 'splash' gave the Marx company in Scarborough a place to write the description in french without changing the box design. The opposite face of the box is the standard US english version without the blue splash. This version was used for the Jay and Josie figures .

• Canadian Original - A Unique box design - for Canadian exclusives such as Sheriff Goode.
• BOTW - US box BOTW version graphics with both english and french subtitles on matching front and back faces. One end flap is in french (bottom) and the other (top) is in english. The accessories on the sides are named in both English and French. This was the 'series' produced by Canada
• JWA - US produced box and figures. Likely imported to Canada and a 'French Instruction' sticker was put on the box. Not sure yet what JWA figures were actually sold in Canada - Do you know??

Like everything Marx, there are some minor variations, for exemple the "in mod colors" Dangerous Dan box is entirely in english, bears the inscription "instructions en français à l'intérieur" but both flaps say: " Dangerous Dan, le cowboy mobile."

The exact production years of these various boxes are unknown, but I do know that they tended to overlap especially when BOTW series was introduced.
